Even the Mob Needs a Kitchen

Home Outlet Comedy campaign

Digital Spark won Home Outlet’s account against two other finalist agencies with “Even the Mob Needs a Kitchen,” a mob-comedy commercial built around the two facts that matter most to the brand: 100% employee ownership and a price-match guarantee. Shot high-key and bright inside a real Home Outlet store, not a stylized crime drama.

The brief

Home Outlet, the retail banner of employee-owned home improvement company EC Barton & Company, needed a campaign that could stand out in a crowded home-improvement ad category and carry two facts that matter most to the brand: it's 100% employee owned, and it will meet or beat a competitor's price by 10%. Digital Spark won the account against two other finalist agencies with a mob-comedy concept built around exactly that.

The approach

The story: a mob boss and his crew walk into a Home Outlet expecting to muscle a deal out of the staff, and instead get met by a store associate who beats their price without blinking. We shot it high-key and bright, styled after character-led insurance-brand comedy rather than a stylized crime drama, and built it across three real store departments, kitchen, bathroom, and flooring, inside an actual Home Outlet showroom. The script went through close revision with the client to keep the humor playful rather than literal-crime, and to make sure the store staff read as confident experts, not intimidated.

The result

Home Outlet got a 30-second hero spot plus 15-second cutdowns across its kitchen, bathroom, and flooring departments, delivered in early 2026 for placement across CTV, digital, social, and broadcast in a subset of the brand's 20-state footprint.

Common questions

What is "Even the Mob Needs a Kitchen"?

A mob-comedy commercial Digital Spark created for Home Outlet, the retail banner of EC Barton & Company. A mob boss and his crew walk into a Home Outlet expecting to strong-arm a deal, and instead get matched without any pressure at all, because Home Outlet already beats competitor pricing by 10%. Digital Spark won the account against two other finalist agencies with this concept.

Why mob comedy for a home improvement retailer?

Because it gives the brand's two hardest-working facts, being 100% employee owned and beating competitor prices by 10%, somewhere fun to live. The tone is styled after character-led insurance-brand comedy: bright, high-key, commercial, not a stylized crime drama.

Where was it shot?

Inside a real, operating Home Outlet store, not a set, across three departments: kitchen, bathroom, and flooring. That's also where the three cutdowns come from, each built around a different department the mob crew works their way through.
